That’s a pity Mark. There is the possibility of making the start 7pm for future rides. This would match the start time for a normal Monday night ride. I was hoping for some feedback on here about preferred time but your’s is the only feedback so far.

Perhaps I can set up one of those voting things if someone could let me know how 🙄

    Cheers, Gordon G.

    Hello All,

It was a wee bit experimental tonight and a learning experience.

I hope most people managed to get into a group. It’s always more enjoyable when you do. Once I’d worked out what had happened to Russell I was able to catch up with Catherine, Colin B and Gordon McL and we worked well together. I thoroughly enjoyed that.

Personally I don’t mind if it breaks up although it would be good to keep the bunch together till about half way to give everyone the experience of riding in a Zwift bunch… it takes a wee while to learn how to judge the effort. Ideally, if the strong riders are on the front, the others can ride at tempo. I’ve found I can be riding at 260W which isn’t enough to take me to the front but if I were to back off a bit to 230W I’d still stay in the bunch but save a bit of energy.

I’ve ridden a lot with the Killie boys and was getting dropped on the first climb by riders who wouldn’t manage that in reality. Rather than get dropped for miles and abandon after 40 minutes I dropped my weight on my profile by 5Kg. I still get dropped but not nearly by so much and usually get to the finish. For the riders who found it really tough to stay with the group I’d recommend doing something similar…. as long as you don’t go dishing it out on the climbs to everyone else. On a flat course I added 0.9mph to my best average speed so it makes a difference on the flat too. I’d recommend anyone who was finding the ride really tough from the start to try this (if you are doing a Zwift race I definitely don’t recommend any adjustments). I believe both height and weight make a difference on Zwift… being both tall and heavy is harder.

Next week I’ll choose a flat course and we can see how that goes. Also, although it is not a race I can choose the ‘Race Results’ option just to see where everyone finishes…. maybe we can work out a handicap system 😉.

The start time can still be flexible…. unless everyone is happy with 6pm. Let me know by posting on here.

    Cheers, Gordon G.

    Hi Colin,

Apparently you can join the Meetup up to 30 minutes late. I can’t find a Zwift instruction telling you how but presumably it will be ‘self explanatory’. 🙄

Ok, so I might have made a wee error while trying to invite Russell Mowat.. I seem to have uninvited Chris Russell. Chris, can you accept the invitation again.

Apologies…. saw the name Russell and clicked before thinking. Doh!

    Hello All,

It looks like we have a decent bunch of 15 so far for tomorrow’s Zwift Meetup. I’m not sure if everyone has done a Meetup but if not here’s a few simple instructions:-

    1. Boot up device (laptop/phone).
    2. Login to Zwift in good time in case there are any updates needed.
    3. Choose a course, any course, and start riding (good for a warmup).
    4. The invitation to join Meetup will come up automatically as you are riding whatever course you are on (it should appear with approx 5 minutes to start of ride).
    5. Click the invitation…. or wait till it automatically transfers you over to the Meetup (the transfer will take a minute).

Probably best to make sure you are riding a course by 5.50pm latest.

Hopefully no issues. Give me a call if you need more info… 07719 300510.

    Cheers, Gordon G.

Great stuff guys. I wasn’t sure whether 6pm or 7pm would suit better. Come the spring and summer the normal Monday club ride is 7pm. Any thoughts or opinions on a preferred time don’t hesitate to post. Zwift allows you to choose a start time to the minute. If 6.30pm allowed people time to get home from work I could do that too.

There are still one or two I’ve not been able to contact. I tried messaging Darren on Zwift but he might no have seen it. If anyone has a contact number for him can you let him know.

Aye, there’ll be one or two in there Neil. Poor old Guy…. just realised I was correcting him on the Cloch Lighthouse elsewhere on here. Guy, you can assume Mr Colquhoun and Mr Graham are a pair of frustrated school teacher types 😄.

And em… can I have an A++ for spelling your surname correct Neil. It’s one of those surnames where I could easily put the vowels in the wrong order 🙂.

Ach well, It’s the holidays and no socialising never mind socially distanced cycling. One day in and I think I’m going stir crazy already. Thank goodness for Zwift.

    C’mon Neil,

There’s loads of people whose level of spelling and grammar are not quite as high as yours. You’ll intimidate them and they won’t post if they think they’ve got to be perfect. We’ve got an ‘apostrophe’ chap in our office who is very pedantic… no me, honestly 😄.

Mind you there are a few who use Fullerton instead of Fullarton. I’ve witnessed many a race start sheet with it.

That old autocorrect excuse Guy. I use it often myself 😉. Apostrophes are one thing but getting the club name wrong… Aye, maybe worth keeping an eye on Guy, Neil.

(Now I’m having to read through my post and checking everything over…. see! I’m feart to submit post now).

    Cheers, Gordon G. 😁.

I’m just getting round to reading the Committee Meetng Minutes. Not much to say other than a big thanks to all in the committee for keeping things going as best we can. I think like most of us I’m feeling a bit cut off from my cycling club but reassured there will be one to go back to when Covid allows.

There was me getting my winter Ribble all cleaned up for the Saturday morning Broom Wagon rides from the Barn…new chain, new rear mech, new saddle (there’s a story in there about it being the same ‘Broom’ Wagon Ribble I’ve used as man and boy 😁). Goodness knows when we will get back to it.

Keep up the good work Guy and guys.

    Cheers, Gordon G.
